Apc power distribution unit pdu
What is an APC PDU?
An APC PDU is a rack-mounted power distribution device that provides multiple power outputs for servers, switches,
storage devices, and other devices within the cabinet.
What products are included?
They include: AP8853, AP7553, AP8881, and AP7921 etc.
What are the usage scenarios?
Widely used in all scenarios involving rack-mounted IT equipment:
Enterprise data centers and computer rooms: These devices are standard equipment for powering servers, storage, and networking
equipment, and are a key component for Data Center Infrastructure Management (DCIM).
Network wiring closets: These devices provide stable power to core network equipment such as switches and routers, and metered
PDUs help monitor the energy consumption of network devices.
Cloud services and hosting rooms: The remote power cycle function of these intelligent PDUs allows for rapid recovery of downed
equipment, reducing the need for on-site maintenance and improving service-level agreements (SLAs).
How to mount a PDU
PDU mounting options are flexible to accommodate various cabinet configurations. There are two main methods:
Vertical Mounting (0U):
Method: Use the included mounting bracket to secure the PDU to a vertical column at the rear or side of the cabinet.
Advantage: This eliminates the use of valuable rack units (Us), making it ideal for high-density deployments where space is limited
and facilitating cable management.
Horizontal Mounting (1U/2U):
Method: Mount the PDU horizontally in a designated U in a 19-inch rack, just like a standard server.
Advantage: Provides a stable installation with easy front-access and visibility, making it suitable for cabinets with ample space.
Users can choose the most appropriate mounting method based on cabinet depth, equipment layout, and cable management
strategy to maximize space utilization.
Financial and trading systems: These devices provide high-availability power distribution and monitoring for critical trading servers,
ensuring business continuity.
Industrial environments: These devices power rack-mounted industrial control computers (IPCs) and switches, and their rugged
design can withstand certain harsh environments.
Telecom base stations: Vertically mounted PDUs are an ideal choice for space-constrained base station cabinets.
